Welcome to Saucy Sauce!
I finally started a blog for photos and stories of our excursions in Hawaii. I'll probably be doing most of the writing and posting since Luis has that pesky job but he'll be adding his unique take on topics dear to his heart such as Chinatown, crack seed, and roach whispering.
Why the name Saucy Sauce? It all goes back to 1999 and a Kansas City friend and chef Charlie Hammond. You'll have to ask him to tell the story because he tells it better than I do. Regardless, the phrase has always had a certain insouciance and seemed like an appropriate name for a blog in which we dish about life in Hawaii. Between Luis and I, it also refers to a specific sauce found only in Kansas City that we miss very much. It's called Yummy's Sweet Shatta and it's delicious on anything. The first time Luis and I tried it was a couple of years ago at a party and we've been hooked ever since. One of Luis' happiest moments was meeting Yummy himself at the Brookside Market and making his oily acquaintance.
We've been in Hawaii for almost three months now so I will be gradually filling you in on what we've done so far as well as adding new adventures. Please feel free to comment or e-mail to either of us. I am at heidi.moyer@gmail.com and Luis is at jaguano@gmail.com.
