Congratulations to me

Apparently it is a tradition in the armed services to host a party when one is promoted to the next rank. While most of polite society would offer to throw you a party to congratulate you for being promoted, in the military you blow your own horn, or rather, shoot your own gun. Luis was promoted around the same time as three other new lieutenant colonels so they threw themselves a joint party in June at a Dave and Buster's party room overlooking downtown Honolulu.

Since we didn't want to make a long drive back to our side of the island after the party, Luis and I got a hotel room in Waikiki for the night and took a cab to the party. The cab company was fresh out of cabs though, so they sent over a long, white limousine. Since we are 12 years old and have never been in a limo before, we had to take each other's picture. If we had noticed it had a sun roof, we probably would have stood up in it and yelled at passersby. Wooooo!!! Lieutenant colonels are number 1!!!

Despite being a Dave and Buster's, the rooftop lanai was a perfect choice. All the video games were downstairs and you wouldn't even know they existed if you hadn't had to walk through the dining area to reach the elevator. The food, however, revealed in part why Dave and Buster's is often referred to as "the Chuckie Cheese for grownups."

Some guests relaxing on the rooftop. On the left is Rusty Parson, Luis' BFF from Iraq. They like to get together and talk about 'Nam every once in a while and about how you can't understand unless you've been there.

LTC Susan and her husband, LTC Scott. Susan planned the most excellent party:

A smattering of baby lawyers at the party, dreaming of what it must be like to be a lieutenant colonel in the JAG Corps:

The fantastic four, from the left to right: LTC Ken, LTC Susan, LTC Luis, and LTC John.
